What color is Sherwin-Williams Cyberspace? What “undertones” are in Cyberspace?
“Undertone” is a tricky word when it comes to paint color. This is because it refers to a subjective opinion based on lighting and context. What most people are really asking with this question is, “What other colors are lurking in this paint? Is Sherwin-Williams Cyberspace blue or gray?”
To answer this question more objectively, we evaluate a paint color’s spectral data (values like hue and chroma). Spectral data is not subjective or based on opinion; it can be objectively and scientifically calculated using colorimeters and spectrophotometers. Understanding a color’s spectral data can help us accurately predict how it will render on the wall.
Hue
For example, hue (or hue family) refers to the area where a particular color lives on the color wheel – red, yellow, blue, green, etc. All colors, even the ones that seem to be neutral, belong to a hue family. (It’s sometimes just a lot harder to see on whites, blacks, and grays). According to the CIE-L*Ch spectral data for Cyberspace Sherwin-Williams, it has a hue angle of 265.272°, putting it in the Purple-Blue hue family. This means you might see just a wink of purple in certain qualities of light, but that’s toned down by a pretty healthy dose of black. In an interior room, most people would probably describe Cyberspace as a very dark navy blue.

Chroma
Chroma, another piece of spectral data, is a measure of a paint color’s vividness or saturation. Cyberspace has a somewhat low chroma value (3.323). This means it will appear mostly neutral, especially in low-light situations, but in direct sunlight or a well-lit room, you’ll see those purply-blue hues come through a bit more. For comparison, it’s a more subdued blue than Benjamin Moore Hale Navy HC-154 or Sherwin-Williams Naval 6244.

Is Sherwin-Williams Cyberspace warm or cool?
Because it’s in the Purple-Blue hue family, Cyberspace SW7076 is naturally a cool paint color.
What is the LRV of Cyberspace?
Light Reflectance Value (LRV) is a measure of how much light a paint reflects back into a room, with 100% being highly reflective and zero being not reflective at all. With an LRV of only 6, Cyberspace is quite dark. In fact, in a very dark room or dark corner, it may appear nearly black.
Artificial light
It’s important to remember the way a color acts in any space is highly influenced by the lighting. Because Cyberspace absorbs so much of the light thrown at it, you may not notice the effects of your lighting as strongly as you would with a lighter-colored paint. Be sure to always use light bulbs in the 3000 K to 3500 K color range for best results. For brighter lights, look for bulbs with higher lumens. For more details and links to specific bulb recommendations, read our guide on choosing the right light bulb.
Natural light
When it comes to exterior light, remember that the quality of light changes throughout the day depending on the direction of the sun in relation to your space. Thinking about the exterior light from the most dominant windows in your space, keep the following in mind when evaluating Cyberspace:
- Rooms with a northern exposure: The cool and gray light will enhance Cyberspace’s grayness, giving it a deep, almost black look.
- Rooms with a southern exposure: The warmth of south-facing light will downplay the gray, allowing the blue to stand out more.
- Rooms with an eastern exposure: Expect warm morning light and shadowy afternoons to transform Cyberspace. It’s a bit of a chameleon, appearing more blue in the morning and gradually darkening, almost to black, by evening.
- Rooms with a western exposure: West-facing light starts passive in the morning but becomes warm in the afternoon, creating a shift in Cyberspace’s appearance, albeit in the opposite direction compared to an east-facing room.
Be sure to view a sample of this color on all walls and in a variety of artificial and natural light.
What White Trim Color Goes With Cyberspace?
This dark gray-blue paint color looks best partnered with clean white paint. We like Sherwin-Williams Extra White and High Reflective White or Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace.
What are a few Sherwin-Williams Cyberspace Coordinating Colors?
Cyberspace is incredibly versatile and coordinates well with lots of other paint colors. It looks especially pretty with greige paint colors, whites, and some creams. It also looks great with grays that are warm or just a bit on the cool side. We’ve put together a sample Sherwin-Williams Cyberspace color palette below based on the Sherwin-Williams’ 2024 Colormix Continuum palette. These hues give a fresh, trend-forward look to an interior space. Use what inspires you!

Is Sherwin-Williams Cyberspace a Good Cabinet Color?
Absolutely! The key is making sure it complements (not competes with) your countertops and backsplash. If you’re a person who loves color and isn’t planning to sell your home anytime soon, go for it! If you’re feeling a little adventurous but not yet ready to cover all your cabinets in blue, consider using it on only a kitchen island or a bathroom vanity. Cyberspace makes a fantastic accent color and looks great mixed in with whites and wood tones.
Is Sherwin-Williams Cyberspace a Good Exterior Paint Color?
Cyberspace can be a stunning color for your home exterior, especially if it suits your home’s other exterior features. We think it looks especially pretty with brick, stone, and natural wood.
Remember, lower LRV colors, like Cyberspace, tend to fade a lot faster in the sun compared to higher LRV colors. That’s worth considering if, for example, your home is located in the southern United States, gets a lot of direct sunlight, and you don’t plan to re-paint it very often. In addition, keep in mind that Cyberspace’s purple-blue hue will be much more obvious in outdoor light than it is in any indoor space. This is why comparing large paint swatches in real exterior light—not just small chips—is so important, a process we walk through in our paint color palette guides.
If you love this color but aren’t sure you want an entirely blue exterior, consider painting a Cyberspace front door…
…or Cyberspace shutters!
What Other Paint Colors Are Similar to Cyberspace?
Again, I never recommend color matching between brands. You cannot color match between brands and expect to get identical results. But if you’re looking for dupes in another brand, there are options. Based on their spectral data, these colors have a vibe that’s comparable to Cyberspace:
- Benjamin Moore Temptation 1609
- Behr N510-6D Orion Gray
- PPG Gray Flannel PPG1013-6
- Farrow & Ball Railings 31
How Does Sherwin-Williams Cyberspace Compare to Other Popular Paint Colors?
If you’re on the hunt for the perfect navy blue or charcoal paint color, you’ve probably run across some others you’re considering. Here’s how they compare:
Sherwin-Williams Cyberspace vs Sherwin-Williams Naval
Sherwin Williams Naval SW6244 is a slightly darker (LRV 4) and “bluer” navy color. Naval has a higher chroma value than Cyberspace (9.641 vs. 3.323), making it a more vivid, saturated color. If you’re looking for a more flexible, neutral navy that just hints at blue, Cyberspace would be a more versatile choice.

Sherwin-Williams Cyberspace vs Sherwin-Williams Iron Ore
Both of these colors have richness and depth. Sherwin Williams Iron Ore SW7069 has a slightly lighter LRV of 6.15 compared to Cyberspace’s 6, but the difference is so minuscule that it’s practically imperceptible. The key distinction lies in their hue and chroma. Iron Ore’s hue angle of 131.887° puts it in the Green-Yellow hue family. That may be hard to tell, though, because of its incredibly low chroma value. At only 1.097, Iron Ore looks mostly like a deep dark gray, while Cyberspace looks distinctly like a subdued blue when placed side by side.

Sherwin-Williams Cyberspace vs Sherwin-Williams Peppercorn
There are some pretty obvious differences between Cyberspace and Peppercorn. Sherwin-Williams Peppercorn SW7674 has a hue angle of 310.645°, making it a warmer Purple hue compared to the cooler Purple-Blue hue of Cyberspace. You may not notice this color difference, though, since Peppercorn’s hue family is almost completely muted by a very heavy dose of gray (chroma=0.707). Peppercorn’s LRV is 10 which, though still dark, makes it significantly lighter than Cyberspace.
